Liverpool Boss Targets 24m Raid to Sign Tottenham, Fulham and Man City Trio
|
|
Roy Hodgson has earmarked January moves for three Premier League players as he seeks to continue
to pull his Liverpool side out of their early season nosedive. The Anfield boss is looking to
clinch deals to bring Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, Fulham centre back Brede Hangeland
and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-phillips to Merseyside.
Shaun Wright-Phillips:
According to reports Manchester City midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips is amenable to a switch to Liverpool FC.
The Mirror claims the England winger is on Reds boss Roy Hodgson 's list of targets to add pace to his midfield.
Wright-Phillips would be available for a cut-price fee as he is in the final year of his contract at Eastlands.
It is understood that contract talks with City have stalled lending weight to the view that the winger would be
willing to leave should the right club come in.

Arsenal join the chase for the German Messi
|
|
Reports in Germany are starting to surface that Arsenal have not only joined the long list of admirers of Werder Bremen
play maker Marko Marin but that The Gunners have in fact moved in to pole position. Marin has been the subject of intense
speculation over the last few months with the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham all linked with the
player termed the German Messi and now the rumours doing the rounds in Germany are that Arsene Wengers Arsenal are now
considered favourites for the 21 year old. Marins valuation has skyrocketed from the 8.5 Million that Werder Bremen paid
for him and it is now suggested that nothing short of 20 Million will be enough to get his club to open up talks, if that
is the case then that may prove to be the biggest stumbling block for Arsenal.

Chelsea back in for Kaka as unsettled Real Madrid star eyes Carlo Ancelotti reunion
|
|
Chelsea are in pole position to sign Brazil playmaker Kaka from Real Madrid. The 28-year-old is
tipped to leave the Bernabeu after a disappointing first season in La Liga and sources in Spain
insist a move to Stamford Bridge is the most likely destination for a player once seen as the
best in the world. Carlo Ancelotti insists he doesn't need to add to his side in January unless
there he is beset by injuries, but a reunion with Kaka would be impossible to resist.

Bale savours 'special' success
|
|
Gareth Bale declared he would never forget Tottenhams historic victory over Inter Milan after a jaw-dropping
performance from the winger toppled the European champions. Bale followed his sensational San Siro hat-trick
two weeks earlier with another virtuoso display as White Hart Lane enjoyed one of its finest nights. "It
was great," Bale beamed afterwards. "It was special beating the European champions. It will be a night
that will never be forgotten." Once again, Bale tormented the so-called best right-back in the world, with
Maicon reduced to what appeared a quivering wreck by full-time after the Welshman laid on Spurs' second and
third goals in the 3-1 win. Long before then, Spurs fans were singing "Taxi for Maicon!" - something
that did not go unnoticed by Bale and his team-mates. "A few of the lads were on about it after the match,"
said the 21-year-old Wales star, who admitted he had never known an atmosphere like it. "The supporters were
unbelievable. They acted as a 12th man. They have been fantastic all season and we capped it off for them tonight.
It was a special night." Bale revealed just how important his San Siro hat-trick had been for his and his
team-mates' confidence after they went 4-0 and a man down two weeks ago. "We all had the belief that we
could hurt Inter and we showed that," he said. "We were unlucky to go down to 10 in the San Siro. With
11 men on the pitch, we know what we can do."

Liverpool 'plot sensational double swoop' after Hodgson scouting trip
|
|
Liverpool are allegedly preparing bids for PSV Eindhoven pair Ola Toivonen and Ibrahim Afellay.
According to The Mirror, Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson flew to Holland at the weekend to watch the duo
in action against FC Twente and will meet with Liverpool owner John W. Henry to discuss signing the exciting
talents. Dutch midfielder Afellay is thought to be at the centre of a bidding war between several clubs -
including Barcelona and Liverpool - while Sweden striker Toivonen was reportedly close to moving to Anfield
during the summer. Both players are only 24-years-old and £20 million is thought to be enough to land the pair,
who will both fit with Liverpool's new ethos of investing in young talent. Henry has spoken of using a similar
model at Liverpool to the one that Arsene Wenger has adopted with Arsenal by spending money on players who still
have room to develop rather than throwing money at ageing professionals. "I admire Arsenal very much," Henry said,
"and part of that is that they are profitable. To me, the word profitable means sustainable able to sustain a business
that has a high degree of excellence. Again I would refer to Arsenal."

Tottenham or Manchester United the likeliest destination for Aston Villa star
|
|
Ashley Young has been quite a sensation in the Premier League ever since his arrival at Aston Villa from Watford three years ago.
Now that his future is uncertain, alarm bells are ringing at Villa Park as several clubs are already lurking around to ascertain
their role in what seems to be a bidding war among the Premier League top guns.
TOTTENHAM
Most certainly the front runners to grab Ashley young and can also take the credit for initiating this transfer saga. It was only
after Harry Redknapp's open interest that his future was questioned. But the only problem is would Young be needed at Spurs who
already have a selection headache in the midfield? With players of high caliber like Van der Vaart, Modric, Bale, Huddlestone,
Lennon, Jenas and Palacios, Young must be contended with a rather subsided role. He just might be a surplus to their requirements.
MANCHESTER UNITED
Quite definitely the most ideal and logical destination for Young. The Red Devils have been quite defensive in the midfield and
also lack attacking options especially after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Ashley Young could enhance United's options up
front and together with the in-form Nani could create wonders in the midfield. And now that Fergie could boast about a transfer
war chest Young could definitely be on United's radar.
MANCHESTER CITY
It wont be a surprise if Mancini makes a move for the winger. Ever since City were purchased by the mega rich Arabs, they have
been going for everything and anything that popped up in the transfer market. The only concern for Young would be his form. He
definitely has to be at his best to find a place in Mancini's squad.
CHELSEA OR ARSENAL
It is quite unlikely that either of them would want to make a bid for the player, especially with the kind of skill and talent
both posses in the midfield. Moreover,Arsenal would not prefer to meet his wage demands and at Chelsea he would be surplus to
requirements, especially after the arrival of Ramires and Zhirkov getting back his long lost form.

Besiktas revive push for Man City striker Santa Cruz
|
|
Besiktas are reviving interest in want-away Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz. The Daily Mail says Besiktas are the latest
club to rekindle interest in City striker Santa Cruz. City manager Roberto Mancini confirmed last week that the Paraguay
international will be allowed to leave in January and Fulham, Getafe and Sevilla have expressed interest. Leicester are also keen
to explore the chance of a loan deal - but that deal is unlikely. The Turks want Santa Cruz, 29, in January and would hand him the
same wages plus a key role in their bid to win a place in next season's Champions League but Fulham remain strong candidates.
