MUZOMETER says Arsenal. Both Arsenal and West Ham enjoyed Carling Cup wins in midweek, but thats where the similarities end. While the Gunners have dazzled at home and abroad this season, their London rivals have struggled to recover from their worst start in the clubs 115-year history. Avram Grants future is unlikely to be determined by the outcome at the Emirates, but the Israeli cannot afford too many more performances like last weekends limp defeat at Newcastle. That result brought a promising run of five games unbeaten to a crashing halt and left the Hammers, who were booed off the pitch by their own supporters, marooned at the foot of the Premier League.

Alex Song headed an 88th-minute winner as Arsenal snatched a dramatic victory to keep West Ham bottom of the table. The visitors looked on course for a hard-earned point thanks to a string of outstanding saves from Robert Green. He reacted brilliantly to repel a Cesc Fabregas shot in the first half and later thwarted Theo Walcott and Fabregas for the second time. Samir Nasri hit the bar and Walcott the post before Song nodded in Gael Clichys cross to seal the points. The result keeps Arsenal second in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Chelsea, while West Ham stay 20th, cut three points adrift of any other team after Wolves shocked Manchester City.

MUZOMETER says Chelsea. Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has been promised 5m to spend in the January transfer window by Rovers prospective new owners, a figure dwarfed by Chelseas spending under Roman Abramovich, who has splurged an estimated 457m on signings since 2003. The Indian family firm set to buy Blackburn for 46m made their fortune from selling chicken, and they are initially promising only a paltry investment in the club. It seems Rovers will be dipping into the bargain bucket rather than pursuing the marquee signings mentioned by rival bidder Ahsan Ali Syed, who said he wanted to bring David Beckham to Ewood Park.

Branislav Ivanovic headed a late winner as league leaders Chelsea came from behind to beat Blackburn Rovers in an exhilerating contest at Ewood Park. Ivanovic rose to power in a delightful Yuri Zhirkov cross to cruelly deny Rovers with just six minutes left. The hosts dominated the first half and deservedly led when Benjani nodded home El-Hadji Dioufs teasing cross. But Nicolas Anelkas fine finish after a sweeping move drew Chelsea level and Ivanovics downward header settled it.

MUZOMETER says EVERTON.

Yakubu scored his first goal of the season as Everton stretched their unbeaten run in the league to five. The Nigerian striker showed neat control before lashing into the roof of the net after Tim Cahills driven shot had rebounded off an upright. Stoke defended stoutly in the main, and Tuncay thought he had grabbed the opener - but was adjudged to have fouled Leighton Baines in the process. However, Everton generally produced more quality than their opponents.

MUZOMETER says Fulham. Mark Hughess attempts to mould Fulham in his own image continue with the visit of in-form Wigan. A combination of injuries to key players, and the teams struggle to adapt to Hughess direct, attacking brand of football have undermined Fulhams good start and left them struggling for points at the wrong end of the table. Hughes has steered his new club to just one league victory, and back-to-back defeats have left them teetering above the drop zone.

Two first half goals from American midfielder Clint Dempsey led Fulham to a comfortable victory over Wigan. The first was a powerful header from inside the area as Dempsey latched onto Carlos Salcidos excellent cross from the left. Chris Baird set up the second, crossing from the right to find Dempsey running into the area to volley home. Wigan looked lacklustre and rarely threatened, suffering their first defeat in seven games.

MUZOMETER says Man City. The league table does not make great reading for second bottom Wolves right now, and nor does the fixture list. Saturdays game against Manchester City follows hot on the heels of defeats at Chelsea and Manchester United, the latter match ending their Carling Cup hopes. Mick McCarthys side return to Old Trafford on league duty next weekend, before facing Arsenal four days later. Unless the Molineux outfit cause a major shock in their upcoming games, they will have gone three months without a league win by the time they face Bolton on 13 November. However, Wolves were by no means outclassed in their last two games, and McCarthy believes his sides luck will turn.

David Edwardss second-half strike handed struggling Wolves a surprise win against fourth-placed Manchester City. Adebayor gave City a first-half lead from the spot after Stearman had brought down Silva. But moments later, Milijas beat goalkeeper Hart with a low, 20-yard drive to put Wolves level. And the home side grabbed what proved to be the winner after the break when David Edwards pounced to slide in after Doyles shot have been parried. Despite victory - their first in the league since the opening day win against Stoke - Wolves remain in the bottom three of the table. But Mick McCarthys side will have been boosted by the manner of their success.

Fellow striker Michael Owen is set to be out for four to five weeks with a hamstring problem. Tottenham defender Ledley King is ruled out with a groin injury. Manager Harry Redknapp says he may opt to put Gareth Bale on the bench with Tuesdays Champions League match against Inter Milan in mind.

It must be said until they can beat a traditional top four side away from home they will not get the recognition they crave.

MUZOMETER says DRAW. Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier is hopeful John Carew will be fit after missing the midweek Carling Cup win over Burnley with flu. Mark Albrighton is banned, Stiliyan Petrov has been ruled out for two months and Luke Young is still not fit. Birmingham have been boosted by the news that Alexander Hleb is fit and they also welcome back former Villa midfielder Craig Gardner from a ban. Cameron Jerome, Jean Beausejour and James McFadden remain out.

Birmingham ended a run of six straight derby-day defeats by holding Aston Villa to a goalless draw at Villa Park. Gardner and Fahey came close to giving visitors Birmingham the lead in a fairly dour first half. The second period was far more open and Villa substitute Bannan saw a curling shot well saved by Foster before Clark headed just wide. The hosts pushed hard for a winner and Ashley Young fired against a post, but Birmingham held out for a point.

MUZOMETER says DRAW. Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has said Steven Taylor is not yet ready to make a return from the shoulder injury that has ruled him out since January. Fellow defender Sol Campbell is also unlikely to feature due to a thigh problem. Sunderlands Kieran Richardson has declared himself fit after the hamstring injury he suffered against West Ham last month. Fraizer Campbell, David Meyler and Andy Reid are still absent.

Kevin Nolan scored a hat-trick as Newcastle thrashed Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James Park. Nolan opened the scoring with an overhead flick before tapping in a second from Carrolls ball. Ameobi added a third from the spot after Onuoha had tripped Jonas Gutierrez before Titus Bramble was sent off for bringing down Carroll. Ameobi then volleyed in his second and Nolan headed in his third before Bent smashed in a late consolation.

MUZOMETER says LIVERPOOL. Bolton manager Owen Coyle has said Ivan Klasnic will come into consideration, despite being arrested this week. But the Trotters remain without Ricardo Gardner Jlloyd Samuel, Sean Davis and Joey OBrien. Liverpools Dirk Kuyt is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle problem, but he will not feature at the Reebok Stadium. Glen Johnson has a slight chance of returning from a thigh injury, but Ryan Babel has been passed fit.

Maxi Rodriguez toe-poked an 86th-minute winner as Liverpool won at Bolton to move out of the relegation zone. Fernando Torres missed two first-half chances to open the scoring, while Steven Gerrard shot wide and Boltons Stuart Holden had a volley well saved. Liverpool lost Joe Cole to a hamstring injury but responded well with Kyrgiakos and Maxi both going close. Bolton pushed for a winner but it was Liverpool who go it, Maxi prodding home after a sublime flick from Torres.
